Trinnacle Circular Walk
This circular walk climbs to the Trinnacle above Dovestone Reservoir in the Peak District National Park. The walk also passes close to the Ashway Moss Memorial.
The route starts at a designated car park near the reservoir and follows a clearly marked trail that gradually ascends through a mix of open moorland and scattered woodland. The Trinnacle is a prominent rocky outcrop that offers extensive views across Dovestone Reservoir and the surrounding rolling hills, providing an excellent vantage point for assessing the broad landscape of the Peak District. The walk also passes close to the Ashway Moss Memorial, a modest monument in memory of James Platt M.P. who died in a shooting accident in the summer of 1857.
On the route you can enjoy some wonderful rock formations and stunning views back down to the series of reservoirs below.

The Raven Stones Trinnacle. The natural environment along the route is typical of the upland ecosystems found in this region. The flora includes hardy moorland species such as heather, bilberry, and gorse thriving on the thin, acidic soils, while seasonal wildflowers like bluebells and primroses add colour in spring. Woodland fringes feature mature oak, birch, and Scots pine, which support a variety of invertebrates and provide habitat for birds such as skylarks, finches, and occasionally birds of prey. Small mammals, including red squirrels and rabbits, can be observed in the quieter areas, and the reservoir itself supports fish species like brown trout and perch.
