Ballynahinch Castle Walks
This walk visits the historic Ballynahinch Castle in the Connemara region of County Galway. The castle grounds are a fine place for a walk with beautiful gardens, a picturesque lake, ancient woodland and glorious views of the surrounding Twelve Bens mountain range.
You can also enjoy a riverside walk along the Owen Wee River which runs just past the grounds. On the way look out for wildlife such as red deer and pine martins. Atlantic salmon and brown trout can also be spotted jumping along the river. After your stroll you can relax with a drink in the Fisherman's Pub or even an afternoon tea.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
To the west of the castle there's Derrigimlagh Bog where you can visit two interesting historic sites. The remote and secluded location served as the crash site for John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown in 1919, during their historic non-stop flight across the Atlantic. There is a memorial here to commemorate the event. The site is also the location of the Marconi wireless transmitting station.
Just to the north of the bog there's also the ruins of Clifden Castle to explore. The grounds of the striking Gothic Revival house include fine views of Clifden Bay. There's also the scenic Sky Road to pick up in this area.
To the north east there's the still waters of Lough Inagh with more great views to the Twelve Bens.
