Cavan Way - Burren Park Walk
This popular waymarked walk follows the Cavan Way from the village of Dowra to Lough Macnean at Blacklion.
On the way you will also pass through the wonderful Cavan Burren Park with its fascinating geological features.
The walk begins in the village of Dowra which marks the most uppermost navigable point of the River Shannon. You then head north east to Shannon Pot, a notable location where the River Shannon rises.
The route continues into the Cuilcagh Mountains with some glorious views from the high points.
The final section then descends to the village of Blacklion where you can enjoy extensive views over Lough Macnean.
Route highlights include the splendid Cavan Burren Park where there are streams, huge sinkholes, woodland trails and some wonderful archaeological features. These include over 80 archaeological monuments from the ‘Giant’s Grave and ‘Calf-House Dolmen’ to stone circles and rock art.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Just south of Dowra you can enjoy some fine walks around the expansive Lough Allen.
To the east there's more waterside walking on the Ballyconnell Canal Walk. The easy walk runs along the canalised section of the Woodford River. There's also the Ballinamore Canal Walk where you can enjoy a stroll along the Shannon Erne Waterway.
