Corlea Trackway Bog Walk
The Corlea Trackway Walk offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore an ancient landscape rich in history and natural beauty.
The trackway is situated near Kenagh in County Longford.
Central to this experience is the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre, which houses an 18-meter stretch of a preserved Iron Age roadway, constructed in 148 BC from heavy oak planks. This remarkable structure is believed to have served as a ceremonial route connecting significant sites such as the Hill of Uisneach and Rathcroghan. Adjacent to the visitor centre, a looped boardwalk trail extends over the conserved peat bog, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the area's unique ecosystem.
The walk, approximately 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) in length, is generally considered an easy route, taking around 48 minutes to complete. The bogland environment supports a diverse array of flora and fauna. Visitors may observe various species of wildlife and plants native to the peatlands.
To continue your walking in the area head south to pick up the Lough Ree Park Walking Trail. There's some lovely views across the expansive lough from this pretty waterside park.
