Sneem River Walk
This walk takes you along the River Sneem estuary in the village of Sneem in County Kerry.
The Sneem River flows through the village, creating a picturesque setting with its brightly painted houses and tranquil waters. As the river meets the currents of Kenmare Bay, a knot-like swirling occurs, adding to the area's charm.
The estuary attracts many wading birds so keep your eyes peeled for a variety of wildlife on the walk. There are also some fine views across the water to the surrounding hills and countryside.
Other local highlights include the pretty Garden of the Senses and the Sneem Sculpture Park which features some impressive pieces by local artists.
To continue your walking in the area you could try the Caherdaniel to Castlecove Walk along the Kerry Way.

The surrounding woodlands are home to native tree species such as oak (Quercus robur), birch (Betula pendula), and ash (Fraxinus excelsior), providing habitats for understory plants like ferns, mosses, and wildflowers, including bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) in spring. This diverse plant life supports numerous animal species, including birds like the pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca), redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus), and various tit species. Mammals such as red squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) inhabit the woodlands, while the estuarine environment attracts wading birds and other wildlife adapted to the brackish waters where the river meets the sea.
