Lough Rynn Walks
This walk explores the grounds of Lough Rynn Castle in County Leitrim.
The historic Irish Castle is surrounded by 350 acres of parkland and gardens making it ideal for an easy walk. There's sawmills, a farmyard, arboretum, green house, French stable yards, nature trails, and terraced gardens. Look out for the 400 year old oak tree, a bronze age tomb and the remains of a mediaeval castle. There's also views of the Rynn river which connects Lough Erril and Lough Rynn.
The castle is now run as a hotel but you can visit for afternoon tea and enjoy a stroll around the grounds.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
About a 30 minute drive to the north west there's more pleasant waterside trails at Lough Allen. You can also pick up the Drumshanbo to Leitrim Walk along the Allen Canal and the long distance Leitrim Way in this area.
To the south east there's Lough Derravaragh and the historic Fore Abbey. The ancient abbey dates back to the 13th century and includes a circular walk taking you around the historic buildings and the village of Fore. Near here there's also the fascinating Loughcrew. This ancient site includes includes a number of tombs thought to date to the 4th millennium BC. There are great views from the hill top to enjoy here as well.
A few miles to the north west you can enjoy some pleasant waterside walking along the River Shannon in the historic town of Carrick On Shannon.
To the north west you'll find Lough Key Forest Park. The park includes lakeside walks and several nature trails, including the popular Tree Canopy Walk, an elevated walkway through the trees.
