Mahon Falls Walk
This route follows the Mahon Falls Walk in the Comeragh Mountains of County Waterford.
You can start the walk from the Mahon Falls car park which lies just over 1km south of the falls. From here you pick up the well defined trail and head north along the River Mahon, passing a series of picturesque cascades. It's about a 20 minute walk through one of the most beautiful parts of County Waterford. The falls look particularly special after rain, with the valley surrounded by wonderful mountainous scenery.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
To continue your walking in the area you could try the Coumshingaun Lake Loop Walk. The more challenging circular walk takes you above a scenic lake with some wonderful views over the surrounding mountains.
The falls lie just to the east of Waterford where you can pick up the Waterford Greenway, a popular cycling and walking trail running along an old railway line. There's also the easier May Park Trail Waterford River Walk to try in the city.
You are also not far from the coast where you can pick up the Ardmore Cliff Walk, the Dunmore East Cliff Walk and the Doneraile Cliff Walk in Tramore. Just east of here you can also see the oldest working lighthouse in the world at Hook Head. It's well worth a visit with guided tours and a maritime exhibition to see. The walk also visits the historic Slade Harbour and castle, which dates back to the 15th century.
Head north to Carrick-on-Suir and you could pick up the Suir Blueway. This shared cycling and walking trail runs along the River Suir between Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel.
To the north west there's the Galty Mountains where you can enjoy a walk to the secluded Lough Curra, climb to the excellent viewpoint at Galtymore Mountain and try the Lake Muskry Trail.
To the west is the beautiful Bay Lough. The remote Corrie Lake is located at the The Vee in the Knockmealdown Mountain range, a popular local area for hiking.
Just to the north there's the Lough Mohra and Rath Beag Loop. The lake is a glacial coum and located in a lovely remote spot with beautiful countryside, forestry and mountains surrounding it.
